FROM THE
GARDEN STATE PARKWAY NORTH
- Take
Exit 125 for Route
35, Sayreville,
South Amboy. Follow
signs for 35 North.
- At end
of ramp, go right.
- Try to
get in left lane at the first traffic light.
- Go thru
first light; go thru second light.
- Bear
slightly right after second light to get onto Rt. 35 North,
going over Victory Bridge.
- Take 35
North up and over Victory Bridge.
- At
bottom of Victory Bridge, turn right at light onto Smith St.
- See
below directions from Smith St.
FROM THE
GARDEN STATE PARKWAY SOUTH
- Take
Exit 129. This is complicated exit with several splits. Follow
all splits/signs for Route 9 South.
- Once on
Route 9 South, you will soon pass under two enormous bridges
that crisscross in an X.
-
Immediately after this crisscross, be ready to turn right onto
the “440 Connector”. There is NO SIGN that says 440 Connector.
(If you happen to miss this right turn, you continue on Route 9
South, and need to do a U Turn somewhere and then, follow the
directions for coming from Route 9 North.)
- After
you have gotten on the 440 connector, it winds around. Do not
stay to the left – that’s a U turn to get back on Route 9. Stay
right.
- The
first traffic light you come to is Smith St. Go thru this
light.
- The
second light you come to is Fayette St. Turn left at this light
onto Fayette.
- Take
Fayette to the High Street traffic light – this is nearly to the
water.
- Turn
right onto High St. Turn left onto Smith St.
- See
below directions from Smith St.
FROM
THE NJ TURNPIKE NORTH
- Take
Exit 11. This is a complicated Exit. Follow all splits and
signs for Route 9 South.
- Once on
Route 9 South, follow directions for Route 9 South below.
FROM THE
NJ TURNPIKE SOUTH
- Take
Exit 10. After toll, get onto 287 South.
- After
1-2 miles, 287 South changes into 440 North (It’s the same
road).
- Stay on
440 North 2-3 miles.
- Pay
attention for “State Street - LAST EXIT IN NJ”. (If you miss
this, you will go up and over the
Outerbridge Crossing and pay a
nice visit to Staten Island. If this happens, follow directions
below for Route 287 North/440 South.)
- As you
take the State Street exit, the ramp winds down and around and
you are placed onto State Street in the direction you need to be
going.

Continue on State Street until Smith Street traffic light – 1-2
miles.
- At the
Smith Street traffic light, turn left onto Smith St.
- Follow
directions for Smith Street below.
FROM
ROUTE 287 SOUTH/440 NORTH IF HEADING TOWARD STATEN ISLAND
- Take
287 South over the NJ Turnpike. The name now changes to 440
North.
- Stay on
440 North until the last exit in NJ – State Street.
- Pay
attention – if this exit is missed, you will have a nice visit
to Staten Island.
- The
exit ramp winds down and around and puts you out onto State St.
in the direction you need to be going.
- Take
State Street approximately 18 blocks. (It’s a small, old town –
this is about a mile.)
- You
will arrive at the Smith Street traffic light.
- Turn
left onto Smith St.
- Go to
water – see Tottenville Ferry launch in front of you.
- Turn
right onto Front St. Go two blocks.
10.The Armory is a large, brick
building on your left.
FROM
ROUTE 287 NORTH/440 SOUTH IF HEADING AWAY FROM STATEN
ISLAND
- Come
over the Outerbridge Crossing.
- Prepare
to exit right onto Amboy Ave.
- Be
careful. This ramp ends at a light. If you turn sharp left
slightly before the light, you will end up back on Route 440,
heading to Staten Island again. Make a 90 degree left precisely
at the Amboy Ave. light. You will now be on Amboy Ave.
- Take
Amboy Ave. until it “T’s” with New Brunswick Ave.
- Turn
left onto New Brunswick Ave.
- Take
this to High St.
- Go
right onto High St.
- Arrive
at the Smith Street traffic light.
- Go left
on to Smith St.
- Take
Smith to the water. See the Tottenville Ferry launch in front
of you.
- Turn
left onto Front St. Go two blocks and the Armory is a large,
brick building on the left.
FROM
ROUTE 9 NORTH
- In the
town of Sayreville, there is an exit for Route 35 North off of
Route 9 North.
- Get
onto Route 35 North.
- Follow
Directions for Route 35 North.
FROM
ROUTE 9 SOUTH
- If you
get on Rt. 9 somewhere near any town North of Perth Amboy,
shortly thereafter, you will soon pass under two enormous
bridges that crisscross in an X. This is the Parkway and the
Turnpike intersection.

Immediately after this crisscross, be ready to turn right onto

directions for coming from Route 9 North.)

FROM
ROUTE 1 NORTH HEADING NORTH
- Take
Route 1 North until the exit for 287 South. (Not sure if this
interchange is Woodbridge or Metuchen).
- Get on
287 South.
- Follow
directions from 287 South.
FROM
ROUTE 1 SOUTH HEADING SOUTH
- In the
town of Woodbridge, Route 9 Southbound splits off of Route 1
Southbound.
- Once
you get onto Route 9 South, follow the directions for Route 9
south below.
- You
will be getting onto Route 9 South just slightly further north
of where the directions begin.
FROM
ROUTE 35 NORTH HEADING NORTH
- Go up
and over the Victory Bridge, which connects the towns of South
Amboy and Perth Amboy.
- At the
bottom of the Victory Bridge, turn right onto Smith Street.
- Follow
directions below for Smith Street.
FROM ROUTE 35 SOUTH HEADING SOUTH
- Take
Route 35 South until you enter the town of Perth Amboy and
arrive at the Smith Street traffic light.
- Turn
right onto Smith Street.
- Follow
directions below for Smith Street.
STARTING FROM SMITH STREET
However you
are familiar with getting yourself on Smith St. in Perth Amboy, do
it. Then,
- Take
Smith Street to the very end where it dead ends at the water.
Right in front of you will be the historic Tottenville Ferry
Launch.
- You
have no choice but to turn right onto a tiny street – Front
Street.
- Go two
blocks
- See a
large, brick building on your left. That is the Armory. Free
parking on both sides of the building.
TAKING
THE NJ TRANSIT BUS
These buses
will take you to Perth Amboy. Ask the bus driver where to get off
so that you are the closest to the water near the end of Smith
Street. Follow directions below for Smith Street.

TAKING
THE NJ TRANSIT TRAIN
- Take
the NJ Transit Coastal Line Train to the Perth Amboy stop.
- The
Perth Amboy train station is bordered by two main roads – Market
Street on one side, Smith Street on the other. Either will get
you there. It’s the same amout of walking; about 10
average-sized blocks.
- First
of all, make sure you are headed to the water, not away from the
water.
- If
walking down Market: Walk on Market Street until you come to a
“roundabout” or traffic circle. Walk halfway around the circle
and continue on Market Street again. Then, proceed one block to
Waters St. Turn left and walk one block on Waters. Come to
Smith St. Turn right and walk one block on Smith. Come to
Front St. Turn right and walk two blocks on Front Street. The
Armory will be on your left.
- If
walking down Smith: Continue to walk until you arrive at the
water; the Tottenville Ferry launch will be in front of you.
Turn right onto Front Street and walk two blocks along Front.
The Armory will be on your left.
