MOHONK MOUNTAIN HOUSE PRESENTS BALLROOM DANCING WEEKEND DECEMBER 3 – 5, 2004
An enchanted world of music, dance, and romance awaits you at
Mohonk’s Ballroom Dancing Weekend, December 3-5, 2004! On Friday night and
Sunday morning, the Night Owls orchestra will provide music for your dancing
pleasure. On Saturday night, the Jazz Lobsters add an air of elegance to the
evening, performing classic Big Band tunes. The Jazz Lobsters have been touring
the tri-state area and beyond for the last twenty-five years. This 16-piece band
is led by James Lafferty, arranger and keyboardist, and includes Rick Stepton on
trombone, a veteran of the Buddy Rich Orchestra for more than 23 years, Mary
McCrink, vocalist, and Bob Ferry on guitar. Mohonk Mountain House, decorated for
the holidays in Victorian splendor, welcomes you to revel in the elegance of a
bygone era and dance the days and nights away. Upon your arrival, our
60-foot-tall Austrian Pine will welcome you with its 1,400 twinkling lights.
Indoors, the Mountain House is decorated top to bottom, and in every nook and
cranny, with swags and wreathes, “kissing balls,” ornaments, and trees– each one
a dazzling display of festivity.
Demonstrations and workshops throughout the weekend are designed to teach students at all levels of experience. Even if you’ve never danced before, Mohonk’s Ballroom Dancing weekend will provide a perfect introduction to the delights of this ageless activity. Intermediate and advanced students will refine their techniques, as we focus on such classic dances as the waltz, fox trot, swing, and tango. So put on those dancing shoes and step out onto the dance floor for Mohonk’s Ballroom Dancing weekend! Well-known dancers, performers, and teachers – Candace Woodward-Clough, Joe Longo, Carlan Russell, Laurie Shayler, and Carla Sheinkopf – bring their exceptional talent to Mohonk’s weekend of ballroom dancing.
Mohonk Mountain House is a National Historic Landmark resort located 90 miles north of New York City on the spectacular Shawangunk Ridge near New Paltz, New York. Since 1869, this 251-room Victorian castle has been owned and operated by members of the Smiley family, and has hosted generations of guests in its unique setting. Surrounded by thousands of acres of unspoiled forest and winding trails, Mohonk (or “lake in the sky”) provides a unique setting for relaxation and renewal of the body, mind, and spirit in a beautiful natural setting.
